Map 8 - Kaufmann
Rating Comments: While this trail loses a star for road noise on the southern stretches, there is some really remarkable terrain here. The secondary trails to the east contain tall granite outcroppings known locally as the "bear's den", deep in a hemlock forest. Another star lost for its lack of a loop. Opportunity for connecting to the Town Forest trails by crossing south over Rte 2 on Poor Farm Road, then catching the secondary trail there. Across the street from the Holy Hill trail system. The Snowmobile Club trail passes over the primary trail grooming it for skiing. Steep in sections. Parking area on South Shaker Road. Moderate.
